Sitaram Saraf is a name that has become synonymous with the global trade of Shellac, Seedlac, and other lac-based products from India. Since our inception in 1975, we have been committed to delivering high-quality products rooted in tradition, backed by expertise, and guided by integrity. As a fourth-generation, family-run business, our legacy spans nearly five decades—carrying with it a deep sense of responsibility and pride in what we do.
Our story began when Mr. Sushil Kumar Saraf, fresh out of college, chose to enter the world of Shellac—a trade largely unknown to many at the time. With the mentorship of his father, Shri Sitaram Saraf, a local trader in Balarampur, West Bengal, he embraced the challenges of the industry and went on to become a pioneer in the export of Shellac from India. His dedication took him across the globe, meeting clients, understanding their needs, and forging lasting partnerships. His entrepreneurial spirit also led to the establishment of a manufacturing plant in Khunti, Jharkhand, which not only scaled up our operations to produce over 150 metric tonnes per month but also provided employment to hundreds of local workers.
Under Mr. Saraf’s visionary leadership, Sitaram Saraf earned national acclaim. He served as the Chairman of the Shellac Export Promotion Council several times, and our company received multiple accolades as the largest exporter of Shellac from India. His passing in November 2020 marked the end of an era, but his values and vision continue to shape our journey today under the stewardship of his son, Mr. Hemant Saraf.
